First thoughts on new iphone 3GS

I managed to pick up an iphone 3GS on launch day from o2. I fnally decided to leave my nokia comfort zone, after about 8 years of being a nokia stalwart.

First impressions are very good. Its just like my 2nd Gen Touch to be fair, only heavier. Feels very well made though.

activation and first synch took about 10 mins ( 13GB or so of music, 2GB of audiobooks, some podcasts,  some apps from my touch, contacts, email settings etc )

Screen quality is good, sounds 'different' to my 2nd Gen iPod touch with music...not sure which I prefer...more investigation required.

Voice control dialing is nice ( when it manages my scottish accent ), and copes well with multiple numbers for the same contact. 'Home' or 'Mobile' she says..which is a nice touch.

The compass seems a little erratic, although I have only tried that indoors.

GPS is quick and even works in my bunker of a flat.

Camera is ok for a phone. Touch to focus/meter is a great feature. Video quality looks passable to.

Im still not 100% convinced about having no 'real' keyboard, but I've been reasonably accurate with the virtual keyboard so far.

Of course its the App store and the wide array of accessories thats the real selling point.

I've got one now too and after years of avoiding touch screen phones I'm impressed. After a days use I've only made one typing error! Which is amazing with my dumpy fingers. Fun with the app store next.
